Summer Reading List For a Badass

tumblr_oss7j5FgT01txr9tuo1_1280Most of you may read that heading and think, “F&*k yeah! I want to be a badass!” while the rest of you are scoffing at my ever-so unladylike language… Let me now apologize for leading you to assumptions. First and foremost, I am speaking in terms of what being a “badass” means to me. Secondly, I believe you can be a lady and say whatever you want. So now that we’ve crossed both of those distracting judgments off the list, allow me to share the books that have fed my soul. To melyouthenorms, being a badass is one who is strong of spirit, brave and fearless, self-aware yet selfless, and always striving to be the best version of themselves. If that sounds like you, or the “YOU” that you strive to be, then add one of these gems to your summer reading list. The work is always worth it.

 1. You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Annoyed by your self-doubt and distractions? The internal noise that keeps you from reaching your potential? Me too. Even on my most Sasha Fierce days, there’s a mean little voice in the back of my mind going, “Hmm… I ‘m not sure if you can, or should, or if you’re good enough to.” Time to tell that little thief of joy to get outta your head and stop killing your vibe. This book is a must-have for waking up your inner badass and being the very best version of yourself.

2. Beautiful Bodies by Kimberly Rae Miller

With summer approaching—aka the pressure of getting bikini body ready—and as a woman who has gone through many of the same struggles, I found Kim’s story so relatable. Beautiful Bodies is warm, funny, poignant, and a brutally honest book that will speak to anyone who’s ever struggled with body image issues—in other words, just about anyone.

 3. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

My take away from Manson’s book was a self-empowerment and motivational bent that I apply to decision making in my life every day. It’s an invaluable quick read that you can easily whip through in a day, but trust me when I say that you will revisit it time and time again for its refreshing perspective on how to move in the world.

4. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

From dumpster diving to selling vintage items on eBay, to becoming CEO of Nasty Gal, Sophia Amoruso takes us on her raw journey of becoming a girl boss while sharing her wisdom for success. This book is a quick and entertaining read with snippets of outrageous (and hilarious) stories from Sophia’s past. Now, let’s all unleash our inner #GIRLBOSS!
